Palairos is a picturesque town in mainland Greece embraced by the waters of the Ionian Gulf. It is situated between Vonitsa and Mytikas and houses about 2,500 inhabitants. The town has a long history and was one of the most important ports in mainland Greece. To this day, the ruins of Kechropoula are preserved. They are one of the most impressive examples of Acarnanian fortification walls. Moreover, in Palia Plagia, you can visit the archaeological site of Sterna and the Venetian Castle of Agios Giorgos. At the foot of the Acarnaian Mountains, settles the St.Dimitrios Monastery. The locals consider it to be the protector of Paleros and its people. Legend has it that a huge rock fell from the mountain and Saint Dimitrios stopped the boulder from demolishing the church.

Besides exploring the various attractions and sights in the city, you can get a better feeling of peace by renting a boat in Palairos. Palairos is a paradise and invites guests for a magnificent boat trip along the shores of the Ionian Sea. We advise the visitor to explore the long stretch of sandy beaches on a private motor yacht. Vathiavali is one of the most spectacular beaches in Acarnania, filled with pebbles and turquoise waters.

Some other remarkable beaches you can include on your boat trip in Palairos are Varko, Potamaki, and Agios Dimitrios Beaches. Varko Beach is located on the southern coast of Paleros and is perfect for swimming. It is a peaceful area that offers beautiful sunsets and a couple of taverns nearby to cater to any refreshment needs. Potamaki is excellent for families with children and has many tourist amenities. It is also fantastic for windsurfing, canoe rentals, and banana rides. It is not far from the village of Pogonia, which will introduce you to a different side of the Ionian Sea.

Located in immediate and close range to the famous islands of Lefkada, Kalamos, and Meganissi, you can enjoy a 3-day or 4-day cruise on a catamaran. From the picturesque modern marina of Palairos, you can head directly to circumnavigate the waters of the Ionian Sea. Finally, Palairos stands out for its traditional and local production of sweets. Syrup cake, Honey, White Halva, plum, cherry, almond, and figs are common desserts. The main square is filled with restaurants, bars, and options for street food for those who want a quick, but equally delicious meal.
