Boats in Lefkada

Lefkada was named after the famous white cliffs of Cape Doukato (Cape Lefkatas), which was dedicated to the Greek god Apollon in the ancient times. The legend says that the famous poet Sappho committed suicide by jumping off the cliffs because of her love to Phaon the ferryman. On the entrance of the island, one can catch sight of the ancient castle of Agia Mavra and the sacred Monastery of Profitis ilias on the eastern coast which has excellent panoramic views of Lefkada island. In terms of Geography, Lefkada is the fourth largest island in the Ionian Sea and lies north of Zakynthos and south of Corfu. The comparative advantage to the other Greek islands is that Lefkada is easily accessible by car, ferry or boat due to its close proximity to the mainland which is connected by a bridge that allows the passage of vehicles and boats.

The island has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, plenty of mysterious mountainous villages and offers visitors with gorgeous sunsets of the Ionian Sea. Lefkada has everything it takes to spend the best summer holidays, even if you have limited time to spend. Lefkada instantly attracts you the moment you make your way through the passage of the bridge, welcoming you to an enchanting and vivid atmosphere. The best time to rent a boat in Lefkada is from late May to mid October where rainfall is scarce and there is perfect temperature for swimming and sunbathing. Because of its stunning beaches and its emerald waters, the island can be considered the ‘Caribbean of Greece’ and is an ideal destination for both couples and families.

Lefkada has paradisiacal beaches, the golden sand and the white pebbles that stretch out of the azure waters create a unique natural beauty. Some of the best beaches to explore by boat in Lefkada include Porto Katsiki and Egremni beach which always score top on the list in the Mediterranean. Other great areas to consider on your boat rental in Lefkada include Agiofili beach which is a couple of km. away from Vassiliki village, the non-organised beach has crystal turquoise waters and offers an excellent chance for adventure. The port of Vassiliki also has many catamarans and sailboats departing to the western beaches of Lefkada for a day cruise, many of which include Porto Katsiki, Egremni or Gialos. For some extra cruising options, you can begin your journey from the port of Nidri which is part of the busiest town in Lefkada but also has ferry services and yacht rentals crossing to Meganissi. Spartochori is one of the three villages of Meganissi yet the largest and many areas can only be reached by boat, including the natural cove of Spilia which is worth seeing. On the north-eastern side of Meganissi, one can find the beautiful hidden corner known as Abelake Bay which is perfect to spend calm and relaxing holidays due to the emerald waters spiraling within countless coves.

Lefkada is not only great for daily excursions around it’s impressive beaches and bays but one can also enjoy a day-trip to Ithaca on a yacht charter. Ithaca is the homeland of Odysseus which marked the end of the king’s adventure in the Trojan war, the island represents the struggle since ancient times and now many tourists are desperate to wander around the picturesque villages of Vathi and Friskes which have their own unique port, beaches and tavernas ashore. Renting a sailboat from Lefkada is ideal for weekly charters, in this case we recommend you to visit Kefalonia and Zakynthos during your ionian cruising program. Do not miss the chance to visit Myrtos beach in Kefalonia and the Shipwreck Beach, Navagio in Zakynthos (Zante) during your sailing holidays in Greece!
