Cres is the largest Croatian island, along with Krk, with an area of approximately 405 square km. It is located in the north Adriatic and connects the island of Lošinj with a bridge in Osor. Cres is a rocky island with numerous picturesque villages and diverse habitats, making it a true haven for nature lovers. There are over 100,000 trees that can be seen across its wide landscape, which for centuries were used to make its olive oil. Together with olive oil, local fruits, and a plethora of seafood, you can have healthy Mediterranean cuisine. Besides being a gastronomic destination, there are many festivities and towns to visit. Mali Lošinj and Martinšćica are the largest settlements on the island, which have been developed as tourist destinations for families and campers. Lošinj was renowned as an island with the finest sailors of the Adriatic, and became the second-most important port on all of its coast (right after Trieste). Cres and Lošinj are linked by Lake Varna which supplies water to both households, this is the deepest and largest lakes in all of the Adriatic. Moreover, legend says that there are fairies that inhabit the caves around the lakes! Both islands cover an area of 513 square km, making them the largest group of the Kvarner Gulf.

One of the most interesting views about Cres is that the town was founded by ancient Greeks. The land was initially “Chersos” meaning “barren land” and later resounded and called “Cres”. The island has been transformed from a once uncultivated land to being overgrown with vegetation. If you want to educate yourself on all the segments of life on the island from ancient times, we recommend you to visit the Museum of Cres. During your stay you can also visit the 8 km long Roman bridge that exceeds the canyon, this has been fully preserved since the time Cres became a part of the Byzantine Empire. Apart from the educational sites and impressive cuisine of the island, you can rent a boat in Cres and discover the unique coastline and the hidden gems of the Adriatic.

A yacht charter in Cres is the perfect choice for relaxation and summer adventures. You can spend a day exploring the island of Losinj and the numerous smaller islands around the archipelago. Some of these islands are Unije, Susak, Vele and Sveti Petar which can easily be accessed by boat. Losinj has an excellent climate and is famous for dolphins. A catamaran cruise is highly recommended so that you can sit comfortably on the yacht and spot the bottlenose dolphins that colonize the sea. You can also dock your boat in Mali Losinj, one of the most beautiful harbors in all the Adriatic. Leaving Cres you can also explore many hidden beaches and small bays such as Mali Bok and Plava Grota. Other options include Lubenice found opposite the small coastal village of Valun with a breathtaking beach known as Sveti Ivan. Here you can swim in crystal-clear waters away from tourist activities and enjoy a peaceful vacation with your private boat. Any moment you can cruise to Valun which is sheltered by the Bay of Pernat and dock your boat in the small port. Here you find all sorts of accommodations and restaurants that are known for using only traditional recipes.

The beauty of sailing around these Croatian islands is that they are connected to Istria and northern Dalmatia. You can spend a day or two exploring the Istrian coast and the town of Opatija for example. Opatija is a charming village with impressive monuments and a wonderful waterfront. From Opatija, you can navigate the water of Kvarner Gulf and even visit Krk or Rab island. Krk is just as big as Cres and is one of the oldest inhabited places in Croatia that brings thousands of visitors who want to explore ruins, old towns and beautiful beaches. Finally, you can complete your boat trip in Cres by visiting Zadar, the former capital of Dalmatia. With a skipper on board, you can explore hidden coves and beaches and take in the wonderful scenery the Adriatic islands have to offer.
