The island is diverse with rich contrasts, the north is more mountainous and great for hiking adventurers, the south is fertile with famous mastic trees that produce a precious resin and the east side has impressive cliffs that arch the hidden seas. The capital of Chios, Hora, has a long history of timeless traditions influenced by colossal powers that will make you travel back in time. If you are sailing in Chios you can explore the western coastline and the long sandy shores. Vroulidia Beach is a great choice, calm with crystal clear waters, and well-protected from the winds, so you will have a smooth boat ride. In close proximity, we have Mavra Volia which attracts visitors from all over the world. This beach is the best choice for families with children since they will enjoy the black pebbled shore that was the result of a now-extinct volcano. When you visit Mavra Volia part of the western coastline you can make stops wherever you please, one of them being Vrondados or Emporio which has lovely natural coves. In fact, Vrondados is a seaside village where during earlier times experienced sailors inspired Christopher Columbus’s nautical plan and assisted him in his discovery of America. Near Emporio, roughly 5 km away, you can visit the village of Pyrgi, decorated with ‘xysta’ – black and white patterns that paint the buildings. Here you will also have a great chance to visit the museum which presents the history of mastic cultivation. Overall, this can mark a great day charter experience.
